Notes from Monthly Meeting for Business 6/22/05

Sandwich Quarterly Meeting will be held at Allen’s Neck on Saturday, July 23rd.  Invitations with directions for getting here will be mailed out.   Help with food and drink will be needed.  Stewart from Westport Meeting will be the speaker.  Our Meeting for worship will be held at Apponegansett Meetinghouse on July 10th at 10:00 AM. Children will attend for at least part of the hour. Ann suggested that the Memorial Fund for Barbara be used to purchase new drapes for the sanctuary. A Memorial Minute for Barbara will be written by Sharon. The Friendship Committee, as well as other members of the Meeting, has been active visiting and sending cards to our members who have been hospitalized; this includes our older members who are home bound and are still interested in what is going on at Allen’s Neck. Meeting approved of donating $1000.00 to Annie’s Fairloom Project to assist in purchasing looms for the women in the community to weave various items which will then be sold in the United States. See them at www.fairloom.org. Ways and Means reported that the Flea Market earned $1,388.00.  Our Friend from Durham Meeting, Teresa,  may be leading the service on a Sunday in July.

Be still and cool
in thy own mind and spirit
from thy own thoughts,
and then thou wilt feel
the principle of God

George Fox

For the past several weeks in First Day School, we have been organizing and compiling the children’s artwork from the year into their books. On Sunday, June 19th, Father’s Day, we began to talk about George Fox. Frances and Hannah gave a brief presentation to the other children about the life of George Fox, and we printed out the passage above and used it to create a new page for their books. The children have requested that we continue adding artwork to their books into next year.

In July, we will be making a transition to our First Day School summer program, which will be more oriented around outdoor activities. On Sunday, July 10th, the Meeting will be going to Apponagansett Meetinghouse, and the children are welcome to come with their parents. For the last three Sundays in July, starting on July 17th, Bob H and Darrin M will be leading a kite-making workshop.
